Color and Light Flip Through

Thanks to BoingBoing for picking up my scoop about the new iBox!

And thanks to Spectrum for the nice video flip-through and review of Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter.

Spectrum writes:
"Based on Jim's enviably popular blog, this book slices though the confusing and often contradictory dogma about color with laser-like precision and backs it all up with some astonishing examples of Gurney's own paintings as well as with a welcome (if brief) survey of underappreciated masters who perfected how light reveals form and content. Color and Light is another gotta-have-it book for anyone who wants to paint, anyone who wants to improve their painting skills, or anyone who simply want a better understanding of the creative process."

What a strange coincidence! I downloaded this video from YouTube few minutes before you posted.
While I was watching on my second monitor, in my web browser suddenly appeared notification about your new post.
Thank you so much for making this book. It's a must-have!

This will sit nicely beside Imaginative Realism in my bookshelf!

Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge. This book looks amazing and I will "devour" it when I hold it in my hands. It will be the perfect complement to your "Imaginative Realism".

i'm really looking forward to this release. Somehow i had a feeling that imaginative realism was "not for me", but this appears to be one of those art books that' i'd buy and actually read cover to cover. (admit it, buying art books is easier than reading/ studying them...)

The book will be released Nov 30. Are we going to be treated to more of your imaginative and zany sales videos?

I think your books, and in the context of the times, your blog, are the "Creative Illustration" type resources of our time. I am very excited about this book. Thank you, from someone who didn't get to go to art school. You are a great educator and artist.

i can't wait! I pre-ordered it as soon as it was mentioned ages ago! Finally the days are drawing nearer! :) Your books and indeed yourself are truly inspiring, thank you so much!

Since I (as most of the readers of this blog, I assume) purchased your previous book, I pre-ordered this one automatically.
I knew there will be no shortage of large, quality reproductions (unlike in many art monograph - sigh) of great paintings. And a sound pieces of advice, of course.

Ahh, I really want to watch this video, but I fear it will detract from the experience of reading the actual book (which I have pre-ordered). I don't even like to watch movie trailers for movies I'm planning on seeing. 25 days...

Can't wait for it! Perfect companion for Imaginative Realism!

What will be the next Gurney book, I wonder... and will we see more unicycle painting?

that's it. I'm getting this book

Sorry for being a little whiny, but: I want this book and I want it now. I've pre-ordered it, but I can't wait! It looks awesome.

I'm filling out your order form right now!

Great-looking book.
I'm reading John Alton's Painting with Light and I bet it'd be a nice companion to yours.

Can't wait to get it.

I was impressed with your Imaginative Realism text. I may have to grab the color and light one...once I get the basics down of color theory.

Damn... I ordered this book what seems like years ago... I'll not have to read it now after that video walklthrough. Only kidding... It looks a worthy book to sit next to Imaginative Realism

Hi, everybody. I'm writing while sitting on a folding stool in the medieval section of Bourges, France! Thanks for the vote of confidence. I hope to do some fun videos in late Nov. and early Dec. when we return.
